London tube strike: travel advice
The London tube strike is underway after talks to prevent it failed. The 48 hour underground strike began last night.

As well as affecting commuters and visitors renting apartments in London, The Guardian warns that tube strike could hit tomorrow's World Cup qualifier between England and Andorra at Wembley. Football fans normally travel to the ground via tube. Nevertheless, officials have ruled against playing the match behind closed doors.

Transport for London advises that the strike began at 6.59pm yesterday and will run until 6.58pm on Thursday. Services are currently operating on more than half of the tube lines. For up to date information on specific lines, travellers should check the Transport for London website.

Around 100 extra buses are being provided on key routes during the tube strike. Additional options are also being provided for cyclists, including temporary parking facilities, free cycle maps and escorted commuter rides into central London. Free walking maps are also available at all major rail, bus and tube stations.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and London Overground services are reported to be running as normal. Oyster Cards are being accepted on all National Rail journeys within Greater London today and tomorrow.
