Jet2 hops across the pond - flights to New York now on sale
Jet2 hops across the pond - flights to New York now on saleJust weeks before Sex and the City hits the big screen, one of Britain's low-cost carriers has announced it is to go transatlantic. At a press conference earlier today, Jet2 confirmed that flights to New York have now gone on sale.

Passengers taking off from Leeds Bradford airport will be able to take a bite of the "big apple" after bosses at the budget airline responded to customer demand for the new route. The new flights are scheduled to commence just in time for holidaymakers to enjoy some Christmas shopping New York style, with the first of four services departing in November. The Leeds Bradford-New York service has much scope for growth, as Richard Bodin, managing director of Jet2holidays explains: "We are launching, initially with four departures - however, if these are successful and in high enough demand, we will add more to the programme."

Bodin, spoke enthusiastically of the new route: "This is an important announcement for us. We knew this destination was one that our customers have been calling for."He went on to say that the company was "proud and thrilled" to be able to offer flights across the Atlantic, to "such an amazing city."

The allure of New York is, according to Bodin, difficult to resist: "New York is one of those cities that everyone must see at least once in a lifetime. It has so many iconic images and sightseeing opportunities, culture that is second-to-none, the world's top stores and boutiques and a fantastic array of restaurants, bars and clubs." Bodin also pointed out that, given the "current strength of the pound against the dollar," there had "never been a better time" to visit the city.

Leeds-based Jet2 was launched five years ago and the airline say that they had been "deluged with requests" for a service to New York. Following the Open Skies Treaty, which came into effect in March, Jet2 claims that there had been much speculation that such a service would be launched. The flights to New York's Newark airport are expected to be extremely popular and holidaymakers are advised to book their seats quickly to avoid disappointment - fares are available from £579.98 return, including taxes.
