Holidaymakers should check the small print before booking with budget airlines, one expert says.Claire Lilley, head of research at Holiday Which?, explained that unwary customers could end up paying more than they had expected due to hidden costs.
She said: "Sometimes they put [extra] things in and they've already ticked the box for you - travel insurance, for example - so make sure you un-tick those things."
Ms Lilley added that it was important for people to decide what they wanted before they booked and that people should not let themselves be talked in to extras they did not want by "smooth marketing spiel".
However, she added that low-cost airlines still offered competitive prices and that many people were "prepared to put up with a certain amount of inconvenience" if the price was right.
Earlier this month research carried out by Holiday Which? Found that people flying with budget airlines paid an average of £28 more than the average price.
