BA launches new flights from Gatwick to Maldives and Sharm El Sheikh

British Airways (BA) has launched new services to the Maldives and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. The new routes are due to start on the same day that BA drops its Gatwick to New York service.
From October 25, travellers taking
Egypt holidays will have the option of flying with BA from Gatwick to
Sharm El Sheikh. The airline will also launch its flights from Gatwick to Male in the
Maldives on the same date.
This will be the first time that BA has flown to the Maldives, but is a return for the airline to the
Red Sea resort. Both services will run three times per week.
"These new routes will be great assets to the BA network and a real winner with customers," said Richard Tams, BA's head of UK and Ireland sales. "They are both perfect holiday destinations, known for their great beaches and fantastic diving...We expect both routes to perform well.
October 25 will also mark the cessation of BA's Gatwick to
New York service. Although this route will no longer operate, BA is set to launch the first ever service from
London City Airport to New York later this year.
