Aviation industry 'is tackling climate change'
The aviation industry is committed to tackling climate change and leads the way in corporate environmental responsibility, one industry body has claimed.According to Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the industry as a whole has been addressing green issues for many years.
He said: "Environmental responsibility is a core promise of the aviation industry, alongside safety and security.
"We have taken this responsibility seriously long before [the Kyoto agreement], with impressive results - a 70 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency over the last four decades."
Mr Bisignani's comments come after the IATA and 13 other air transport organisations signed up to a "historic" commitment to tackle the issue of climate change.
He believes that the document will help the industry to achieve its goal of carbon natural growth.
Last week, the Daily Telegraph claimed that environmentally-friendly holidays are now a must.
It suggested that people who took long-haul flights should stay for longer at their destination in order to "make that journey more worthwhile".
