Aer Lingus backtracks on £4 flights to the USA
Aer Lingus backtracks on £4 flights to the USACustomers who managed to book Aer Lingus business class flights to the US for just €5 (£4) are set for disappointment after the airline claimed that the offer was a result of a "technical error".

Around 100 customers were able to book flights - which usually cost more than £1,000 - at the knockdown price when promotional fares were accidentally put on to the company's booking website.

Once the mistake was noticed, the airline moved quickly, sending an email to those who had booked the flights.

The message blamed the prices on a fault with the website and informed people that the tickets would not be valid.

It said: "This email is to notify you of cancellation of your booking and to advise no funds will be deducted from your account."

However, speaking on RTE Radio today, Dermott Jewell, chief executive of the Consumers' Association of Ireland stated that those who had booked the fares should at least be compensated.

"They booked and paid to bind the contract. Realistically Aer Lingus is going to have to do something to abide by the bookings and to help the customers," he said.

Earlier this week, the airline announced that it is to purchase 12 new Airbus planes as it looks to expand the number of routes it offers.
