Portugal set to mourn Madeira victims

According to the BBC, the Portuguese government is to hold an emergency cabinet meeting and then announce three days of national mourning for the victims of the recent floods, which have so far claimed the lives of 42 people including one Briton.
As search crews continue to look for victims amid debris it is also estimated that around 250 people have been made homeless and many more left without power and water following rock and mudslides that affected many areas of the island including the regional capital
Funchal.
Some communities remain cut-off and the
Portuguese government has asked for emergency funds from the EU with
Spain already offering assistance.
Madeira’s International Airport is currently being used as a temporary morgue; however, international flights were resumed late yesterday.
