Kenya halves visa fees
Kenya halves visa fees

Kenya has halved the cost of its tourist visas. Visa fees will be reduced by 50 per cent from April 1 until the end of 2010 in an attempt to encourage more visitors to the country.
Furthermore, children under the age of 16 will be exempt from all visa fees, reports The Telegraph. A single entry visa for Kenya currently costs £30, or £60 for multiple entries.
Kenya holidays have declined in popularity in the last couple of years, particularly with visitors from the UK and the US. Tourists have been discouraged from visiting the country following the violence that broke out in Kenya after its elections in December 2007. The global economic downturn is believed to have exacerbated the situation.
"The number of tourists visiting the country has gone down owing to the global economic crisis," said Bimal Thaker, director of a Kenyan resort. "A
visa fee waiver can play a part in attracting more holidaymakers."
Revenue from tourism is Kenya's main source of foreign exchange. 2008's revenue was down 54 per cent compared to 2007, which saw a record two million visitors to the country.
