Jetstar plane makes emergency landing after fire

A Jetstar plane has been forced to make an emergency landing after a fire in the cockpit. The incident on the Australian passenger plane came after another passenger plane had to return to Gran Canaria after reports of an engine fire.
The Jetstar aircraft was en route from
Japan to
Australia, reports The BBC. The pilots were able to extinguish the fire before they made an emergency landing on the Pacific island of Guam.
The plane was four hours into its flight to Australia's
Gold Coast when the fire started. "Smoke became evident in the cockpit and one of our pilots was required to use an extinguisher," a spokesman for Jetstar told ABC News. "We conducted an emergency diversion to Guam International Airport, where the aircraft landed without incident."
Meanwhile, an Airbus A320 belonging to the
Spanish airline Iberworld had to return to
Gran Canaria shortly after takeoff yesterday. The Times reports that the plane, which was destined for Oslo, experienced engine problems. AENA, the Spanish airport authority, has denied that there was a fire, but some of 180 passengers claimed they saw flames and heard explosions.
