Fofoa house

“This position is unbeatable!” Although the beach house was still being built while we were there, we stayed on Fofoa in Karyn & Boris's own incredible, eco-home. We woke up each morning to birds flitting across the garden and the waves lapping on the beach - which we see from our bed. We'd make fresh coffee (freshly ground from the local Tongan beans), pick some bananas and papaya from their garden & sit at the shaded breakfast table enjoying the view. The house had everything we could wish for (and more!) - comfortable beds, hot showers, fridge & freezer, good selection of books etc. We loved the privacy and peace of the location - absolutely untouched beauty with the clearest water I've ever seen in the lagoon but this may be too isolated for some people. If you enjoy nature, then this is a holiday for you.

The Beach House, Tonga
Totally unspoiled south sea island paradise with western comforts

In today’s world it is almost impossible to find a place like Boris and Karen’s Tongan Eco Beach Home. Fofoa Island is untouched by technology, unhurried by modern hustle and bustle, without fences and sits directly on a pristine tropical lagoon where the sound of the surf replaces that of mechanical noise. It took my wife and I (and our 2 friends) over 40 hours to get there, which was an adventure in itself—two taxi rides, 4 airplanes, and two boats later we arrived after dark at Fofoa. We were at once shocked by the beach home: clean to a fault, shiny new appliances, hot water, books and games, a private beach and a killer view of the lagoon. This is a place for those who don’t object to some western comforts while directly experiencing the sheer wonder of a natural tropical habitat. The closest market is on Vava’u Island – about 45 minutes away by launch, so you need to stock up with all the food you need before coming out. And that brings me to Karen and Boris and their kids. Helpful, wonderful, magical. If you need it, and there’s any way to supply it, they get it to appear instantly. Kayaking in the lagoon, exploring uninhabited refuges, meeting locals on neighboring islands, swimming with the whales, (and for those so inclined, great sport-fishing) —it’s an experience of a lifetime.see more
