Tangalle Mansion
A truly memorable experience

We have just returned from a fantastic month's holiday at the Villa Hiru Sandu. This was a truly memorable experience in this beautiful country. The villa is charming and the beachfront location is stunning. But above all, it was Lakmal and his team who made this a holiday to remember. Always attentive yet never intrusive they kept the villa,grounds and pool in pristine condition. The three of them were friendly and helpful and we miss them! It is difficult to sum up such an experience in a few sentences but who could forget such memories as sitting on the verandah watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean whilst sipping on a gin and tonic or an ice cold beer? Or sitting under a palm tree watching the wildlife that came to visit on a daily basis? Or an early morning, barefoot walk along the picture postcard beach watching the friendly,local fisherman land their catch? And then of course there were the delicious meals Lakmal prepared for us. And so the memories go on! We so enjoyed our lazy days at the villa that it was difficult to drag ourselves away. But when we did we visited some amazing places and sights. We saw wild elephants and other wildlife at Uda Walawe National Park and the bird life at Bundala. We went to Ella and the Tea Country, to Kandy and the historic fort of Galle. For these trips we had a friendly, safe and reliable driver and guide in Upal whilst for local trips we had Lakmal and his tuk tuk. The place is unique! Beautiful.

This amazing house is located away from the tourist track in a small cute village but it was very easy to reach there. Being far from the regular tourist hubs, it is very relaxing to just BE there, surrounded by nature. No hassle at all to reach there. It is a totally safe place. The house is located at a small stream and we were able to observe so many birds, monkeys, snakes and monitor lizzards. It is a place for nature lovers. The caretakers took so nicely care of everything. They cooked great meals for us and gave us the utensil needed for doing laundry. Nelun organised a jeep safari in the Yala National Park for us, which was great. We could observe plenty of colourful birds as well as crocodiles, deers, elephants, monkeys, snakes and many more wild animals. Nelun was not only there for us while staying at her place, but she helped us druing our tour too. We highly recommend to stay at this peaceful place and to relax in this place's energy and atmosphere and to enjoy the hospitality of the caretakers. … see more
