"Beautiful Views, fantastic cottage."

I picked this cottage because my girlfriend had taken me to Tricia's other cottage (Ambrose) over the road for my birthday near the start of our relationship so I knew what a great location it was in.… More

Congratulations to you both on your engagement!...and even better that Hillcrest cottage played a part in your proposal of marriage. It is quite the romantic setting! We look forward to welcoming you back ,perhaps as Mr and Mrs? Very best wishes Tricia

"Picture Perfect Views!"

Our family of four (2 adults and kids ages 15 and 10) stayed in the cottage for 4 nights in August 2014. We almost didn't rent because we wanted a 2 bathroom place, but don't let that deter you from … More

Thank you for that lovely review of Hillcrest cottage ..it is very true that this is the quieter part of the Cotswolds, known as the "undiscovered Cotswolds". We have beautiful hill and valley scenery ,so that around every corner is something different... perfect for walks with loads to see.... but yes one of the best views around is from Hillcrest cottage! There is so much to do and see locally because we are in between 2 villages and a town with the award winning Farmers Market, that I hope all my info with photos in the cottage, helped you make the most of your stay. Thank you again for your review and we would love to welcome you back one day. Kind regards Tricia

"Stunning views, beautiful comfortable cosy cottage, and the host provides a wealth of information to make the most of your stay."

Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in the Cotswolds and coming 'home' to the cottage every evening. The cottage is located well with panoramic views over the valley towards Stroud. The cottage is full… More

We are so very glad you loved your stay at Hillcrest Cottage-that means I have done my job! We dont ask for reviews ( unlike many cottage owners) so that is even better when you have taken the time and trouble-Thank you. We know we are priviledged to live in such a beautiful & quieter part of the Cotswolds and to share those STUNNING VIEWS with Hillcrest Cottage. I do try to make it home from home beyond the practical things of our "special" cooker, etc, with the finishing touches. This includes make the childrens bedroom feel welcoming too ... happy children means happy parents. Today the beautiful views of autumn trees in the sunshine, beckens for me to tend the cottage garden before winter really sets in ! Thank you once again for your review.

"Ideal getaway"

We loved Ambrose Cottage. It was the ideal getaway from the crowds. It was an excellent base to explore the 'Golden Valley'. The cottage itself is charming and quirky, and is exactly as described on t… More

Thank you so much for your lovely review of Ambrose cottage, yes those never-ending views in this part of the "undiscovered Cotswolds" are quite special aren't they? I hope you managed to try my suggested walks from the doorstep and an evening at Stroud brewery ? Next time, include a Saturday to include a trip to the award winning Farmers Market in Stroud.. it is buzzing with atmosphere. Unfortunately it has been difficult to recover from 2 previous reviews which dont take into consideration the work and changes made to Ambrose cottage... I work hard to ensure guests are happy during their stay, including giving plenty of my recommendations on what to do and see locally too, especially my suggestions for great eating out....its good for me to test out the eateries too! We would love to welcome you back, perhaps to try Hillcrest cottage next time! Thank you again!

"Lijkt mooier als dat het is"

Wij waren alle vier niet te spreken over het huisje. Alles lijkt op de foto's veel mooier als dat het werkelijk is. Het ruikt muf op de begane grond, de wasmachine werkte niet goed en de waterkoker la… More

I am truly sorry that not everything was as you expected at the cottage ,very occasionally things do get broken and cannot be replaced on changeover day but as on my welcome card I do encourage guests to contact me, so I can order replacement items straight away - I take all comments very seriously. I did inform you that the new furniture for the balcony would be arriving in the week and it arrived on Friday after previous guests had appologised for breaking one of the chairs, and I am only sorry you did not have the use of it.. I will be posting the new photo of it, when I have my next changeover day. Sometimes electricals do break down,so when you told me of the washing machine problem ( it washed all day) I came to the cottage straight away to see what I could do .As it could not be fixed that evening I took the washing back to my home and returned it that evening clean, dried and folded... I cant help but take it to heart and only want to make things right for those who stay at either of my cottages! Part of the beauty of the Cotswolds is the light limestone walls of houses and across fields but this also causes heavy limescaling of all our watersystems, but the kettle was brand new. I am afraid we do not advertise the cottage as having wifi. Sometimes we do get a slightly damp smell on the ground floor ,as after the torrential summer rain storms we had, this is because we are on a hillside and limestone is porous, putting the heating on cures this. The windows were closed to keep the cottage cool for your arrival ..maybe they should have been opened! And finally I genuinely care about all my guests and getting it right- so I invite you to see the reviews of my other cottage- Hillcrest cottage, to see that I am very well thought of by staying guests for my very warm welcome and my willingness to help on all levels. I am now smiling again as my current guests have just been telling me what an amazing day they have had and how they are bowled over by the scenery.

"Not suitable for young children"

We didn't have a very good time here I'm afraid. Unfortunately for the owner, her cleaner let her down, so the cottage was not well cleaned. Also there were quite a few bugs (woodlice) in the cottage,… More

Thank you for your comments. We do state on our website that the cottage is not recommended for children between the age of 6 months to 6 years. I always recommend our other cottage Hillcrest-cottage for guests with younger children, as not only is it over 2 floors instead of 3,it is gated and has a proper garden instead of the balcony and terraced seating area..so it is more suitable for children to play! However, when guests with younger children still want to book, my owner booking form flags up child ages and I do explain about the cottage.. I wont take a booking of more than one child to one adult and only one child can be under the age of 6 in Ambrose cottage. This system works on non automated bookings through us directly ,which I would always encourage... Unfortunately limestone or Cotswolds stone is porous, so is a haven for woodlice (relatives of amonite fossils found in limestone), they are harmless.. but we have been everywhere sealing every gap we can,(started during your stay),and built in to our re-decorating...new photos to come soon... Usually everything runs smoothly with holiday cottages but there are times when things just dont go to plan and I respond to any issues at our cottages immediately. I would recommend that before booking a holiday home, always search the owners website. Speak to the owner if you have any special requirements or concerns of suitability...we want you to enjoy your stay and we hate issues too. We are very sorry for the inconvenience back in July last year but I had believed you had felt we dealt with the matter promptly and fairly at the time of your stay. Kind regards
