Trump's Scottish golf resort one step closer

Donald Trump has been granted planning permission to develop land he does not own for a golf course in Aberdeenshire. The property tycoon wants to create a £1bn golf resort but has encountered strong opposition.
Planners have now approved Trump's plans to develop the course on land belonging to whom The Guardian terms "his fiercest opponents". Trump can now build on six plots of land that does not own.
Trump wants to create new opportunities for holidaymakers looking to play
golf in Scotland. The plans include an 18-hole championship golf course, a golfing academy and housing.
The owners of the land Trump proposes developing have now promised legal action to stop Aberdeenshire council taking the next step of compulsory purchase. It is believed that two of the six plot owners would be willing to sell the land to Trump, however the tycoon now has to persuade the council to seize the other four.
Following the decision, Trump's son said that the family would try to reach a deal with the current residents. George Sorial, the Trump Organisation's managing director of international development, added: "The discussions are ongoing, we are still talking to all the neighbours...if we can resolve this amicably and fairly, that's what we intend on doing."
