New airline could increase Dubaian visitor numbers in Greece
New airline could increase Dubaian visitor numbers in GreeceMore visitors from Dubai are set to holiday in Greece after the two countries strengthened their tourism ties. TravelDailyNews.com reports on the recent meeting between the Greek minister of tourism and Dubai officials.

Speaking after his meeting with the managing director of Emirates Airline, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Aris Spiliotopoulos was enthusiastic about the future: "This particular area [Dubai] is a tourist target for Greece. We have observed, with great pleasure, the ever-increasing numbers of visitors from Dubai. It is our ambition to raise that number even higher."

Spiliotopoulos explained that Greece aims to improve its already good airlinks with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and to promote its "specialised tourist products". To this end, the Greek minister announced that the UAE would soon be launching a new airline, and he had suggested Rhodes and Crete as possible destinations, speculating that these "might be among the first [destinations] the new airline flies to".

Spiliotopoulos was also in discussions with Dubai's director of the Ministry of Information, Hasher Bin Jumaa Al Maktoum. Al Maktoum considered the meeting to be "a very positive step" and commented that because of Dubai's climate, many residents travel abroad. In order to escape the heat, Dubai residents seek out "nautical and mountain-climbing tourism", both of which are available in Greece, he added.
