Indian state to develop 300 new tourist attractions
Indian state to develop 300 new tourist attractionsThe state of Orissa, India, is set to receive a boost to its tourism industry with 300 locations earmarked for development.

Officials in the state, which has around 480 kilometres of coastline, are keen to combine beach and eco-tourism, reports the Economic Times.

The projects will be aimed at attracting domestic and foreign visitors.

According to state tourism minister Debi Prasad Mishra the projects will be supported by private investment in infrastructure such as roads and electricity.

Situated next to the Bay of Bengal, Orissa is home to six major rivers and covers an area of 155,707 square kilometres.

The area is largely rural but has a rich and varied history which has left its mark across the state in the form of several ornate temples.

Orissa is also home to Nandankanan zoo, Similipal national park and 18 smaller wildlife sanctuaries.

The zoo houses 34 white tigers - one of the rarest animals in the world.
