Holidaymakers flock to Montenegro
Montenegro experienced a tourism boom in 2007, figures show.Balkaninsight.com, reports that figures released by the Montenegro tourism board showed that income from the industry increased by 30 per cent to over £360 million in 2007.
It added that around 1 million people visited the country from abroad.
There was also a rise in the number of holidaymakers from western, central and northern
Europe.
And while all areas of the tourism industry received a boost, the mountainous areas of Montenegro and its national parks were singled out as having enjoyed a significant rise in the level of interest, the board said.
Situated in the Balkans, the country shares borders with
Serbia, Albania and
Croatia.
It also has 290 kilometres of coastline, shared between the Adriatic and Mediterranean.
There are also regular ferries which travel between Montenegro and the harbours of Bari and Ancona in
Italy.
