Part of the next Harry Potter film is set to be filmed in west Wales. Owners of holiday cottages in Pembrokeshire could benefit as the area's profile is raised by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, starring Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

It is believed that staff from Warner Brothers, the film company behind the next Harry Potter film, have visited the region and booked Pembrokeshire holiday cottages ahead of filming in early summer, according to WalesOnline.co.uk. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be based on the seventh and final book in JK Rowling's popular series.

Seaside scenes in the book are set to be filmed on Pembrokeshire's coastline, which will represent the fictional village of Tinworth in Cornwall where characters Harry, Hermione and Ron take shelter in Shell Cottage. The decision to film in Pembrokeshire was reached after teams of cinematography experts and production designers visited the county, who thought it perfect for romantic, spooky locations in the Harry Potter book.

The news has been welcomed by tourism officials. "There is no doubt that any part in a film of this magnitude works as a fantastic marketing tool for the tourism industry," said chief executive of Pembrokeshire Tourism, Alison Belton. "Because Harry Potter reaches a worldwide market, particularly of a younger generation, it is important that we embrace the marketing opportunities here.

The tourism body is interested in producing film trailers to promote holidays in Pembrokeshire, Belton added. This would allow the country to reach a global audience.

Opporrtunities for promoting holidays in Wales were recently provided by the filming of the Dylan Thomas biopic, Edge of Love, starring Kiera Knightly and Sienna Miller.
