England looks to lure tourists
England looks to lure touristsThere will be even more opportunities to attract overseas tourists to England next year, one industry body has said.

Sian Brenchley of Visit Britain said that a number of factors - including Liverpool being 2008's European Capital of Culture - should help boost visitor numbers.

She added that people could expect to see an increased number of tourists from "emerging markets" such as Poland, the Czech Republic and China.

And the recent transfer of high-speed cross-channel rail service to St Pancras International means that tourists from France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany can enjoy faster services to Britain, Ms Brenchley said.

Research by the Office of National Statistics found that, during the 12 months to November 2007, 32.9 million people visited the UK from overseas.

The figure was a two per cent increase on the previous 12 months.
