Cape Verde is 'closest Caribbean to Europe'

Cape Verde is 'closest Caribbean to Europe'
Cape Verde is 'closest Caribbean to Europe'The islands of Cape Verde are marketed as "the nearest Caribbean to Europe", which goes some way to explaining the country's appeal, an industry expert has said.

According to Paul Collins of Buy Association, Cape Verde's Caribbean-style climate is undeniably alluring and makes it a popular destination for Brits.

Furthermore, he explained, it is particularly well-liked by those who enjoy watersports such as windsurfing.

Mr Collins said: "There are various reasons for the relatively sudden popularity of the Cape Verde islands.

"The area itself has opened up to tourists so there are now direct flight routes from the UK. That makes it nice and easy for people to get there."

Indeed, a new airport has recently opened on the island of Boavista, where it is reported there is to be investment of over 220 million euros in tourism, including a 2,000-room hotel and improvements to road links on the island.

Mr Collins added that those looking for investment opportunities will be drawn to the country's "emerging" property market.
