Spain is top Brit favourite for Christmas
Spain is the favourite destination for Brits travelling at Christmas due to good holiday rental availability, an industry expert has said.According to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), this destination is the most popular among travellers from the UK, with
South Africa highlighted as another far-flung favourite by British Airways recently.
ABTA's Frances Tuke explained: "Because of the huge numbers of people who have holiday homes in Spain, that is our top destination. But the
Canary Islands in particular top the numbers because the weather is so good over Christmas.
"In terms of skiing, the Alps in
France,
Austria and
Italy are the most popular."
Travelbite.co.uk recently revealed that 71 per cent of workers have saved up their holiday allowance to use before the end of the year, with figures based on research by Lastminute.com.
Meanwhile, Ms Tuke said that many people visit Australasia and America to visit friends and family during the festive season, while the Caribbean, North Africa and Dubai are all hot spots for those seeking winter sun.
