Repeat holidaymakers urged to buy holiday homes
Britons who often return to their favourite holiday destination could collectively save around £65 billion if they opt to buy a holiday home there instead, according to new research.A study by MRI Overseas Property found that some 73 per cent of holidaymakers have visited a location at least twice.
With a fifth of Britons taking holidays at least four times a year, the expenses of holidays soon rack up, with the average getaway now costing £1,477 – around six per cent of the average salary.
However, these costs could be cut dramatically if Britons purchased holiday homes, rather than forked out for hotels and other such accommodation.
France and Spain are the most popular holiday destinations for Britons and many affordable holiday homes are located there.
"Instead of the infamous Brits abroad on holiday stereotype, we could become global landlords," said Darragh MacAnthony, group chairman of MRI Overseas Property.
"Smart investors will almost certainly move towards buying a property overseas capitalizing not only on the opportunity to return to the same destination several times over, without paying for the property hire, but also gaining from the rental returns and in the long-term potential capital value."
