Portuguese new builds 'offer more to investors'
New build properties in Portugal are more attractive to investors than older ones, according to one expert.James Aitkin, director of Quinta Sales, said that while older properties were "lovely and quaint" they would provide their owners with more problems than newer properties.
He said: "As an owner [of an older property] your maintenance will be more and your rental won't be as much."
Mr Aitkin added: "[New] properties here now are so well built. The standard in construction is the best I have ever seen."
And the country is also seeing a "huge demand for rental property" with demand close to outstripping supply, he said.
According to Sunscape Properties - a property inspection company - tourism in Portugal is set to increase by 300 per cent in the next seven years.
It puts this down to new developments such as a theme park, a Formula One racing track and a number of golf courses.
