More Britons renting holiday cottages
Investors in holiday rental property in this country are set to benefit as it was revealed that more British holidaymakers will stay within the UK this year, with holiday cottage rentals increasingly popular, according to the website cottages.co.uk.The website attributes the 100 per cent rise in enquiries during January 2007 in comparison to the previous year to a number of factors, including holidaymaker's concerns about global warming, tightened US immigration controls and the strength of the Euro.
Jon Cockerill, the website's managing director, said: "Cottages provide significant value for short breaks and family holidays at any time of year.
"With increasing financial pressures and greater awareness of the environmental impact of long haul travel, more people are spending leisure time closer to home," he added.
Demand for rental cottages has been high across the UK, with the regions of Cumbria, Northumbria and Yorkshire all reporting record levels of enquiries.
In the New Forest, Jude Dalton of newforestliving.co.uk said: "We need more cottages to meet the demand."
Despite this latest trend, the prime minister, Tony Blair, recently announced he would be reluctant to give up holidaying abroad as a contribution to the environment.
