Holidaymakers want holiday homes with a twist
UK holidaymakers are looking for holiday homes with a bit of a difference when they travel abroad, according to new research.A study by Self Catering Breaks found that the demand for more unusual types of holiday accommodation, including castles and canal boats, has gone up by 50 per cent in the past year.
Traditional holiday homes, holiday villas and apartments, have seen demand increase by 12 per cent over the period, according to the figures.
"While villas and apartments have a much larger share of the market we are seeing a definite trend towards holiday accommodation with something different or special about it," said Gareth Robinson, director of Self Catering Breaks.
He added: "Owners of castles, house boats, and even log cabins are seeing growing interest in their accommodation. With leisure time getting scarcer, travellers want their holiday experience to be extra special and the accommodation can help achieve that."
