Wirral wonderland - West Kirby property market hots up
Wirral wonderland - West Kirby property market hots upOriginally developed as a Victorian resort, one town in the Wirral is proving attractive to property investors, according to the Financial Times. The paper reports on the popularity of West Kirby.

The town on the north-west coast of England is in one of the few regions that has so far escaped a floundering property market and not seen a fall in house prices. The town is in demand and forms one of the "most sought-after postcodes in the north-west of England", according to estate agent Shaun Carlton: "West Kirby has always been attractive to buyers, with its village lifestyle and sea views." He went on to say that prices in the town are about £80,000 higher than in other parts of the Wirral.

Local resident Christian Saverimutti commented on the town's investment potential, citing "easy access to beaches, golf courses and green belt land" as attractions for investors. The golf course at Hoylake will also play a role in the town's future, Saverimutti feels; "The fact that the Royal Liverpool [in Hoylake] is back on the championship circuit will continue to attract tourism and investment to the area." A good transport infrastructure and old-fashioned charm also underpin the attraction of the area.

Nevertheless, plans for regeneration and renovation of the town's amenities are in place to tempt in more investors. A 333-acre golf resort is also in the pipeline.

Meanwhile, property markets outside of the town are looking healthy too; in nearby Caldy, home of professional footballers and Liverpool FC manager Rafael Benítez, house prices start at £550,000 and go into the millions.
