Spain most searched for location with property investors

Recently compiled data has revealed the most searched for destinations by British investors researching the overseas property market. The report by analysts Globaledge.co.uk discovered that Spain takes the top-spot, followed by France and the emerging market of Bulgaria, which took second and third place respectively.
Using the UK WordTracker keyword analysis tool, over 200,000 property-related searches were scanned over a period of 100 days, the results of which researchers at the website, on May 6th, compiled into a list of the most popular 101 overseas property destinations. The figures reveal that
Spain carries a lot of interest for overseas investors; searches for the country make up 10.84 per cent of all tracked search engine activity. In total, five of the top ten destinations were Spanish; the
Costa Blanca took fifth place and
Tenerife,
Murcia and
Mallorca also made it into the top end of the list.
France was the second most searched for location, constituting almost five per cent of all searches. The results show that on a more local level in the country,
Brittany was the most popular area, followed by the French Alps, the Dordogne, Languedoc-Roussillon and other ski resorts such as Chamonix and Meribel.
Emerging markets also featured in the top ten in the form of
Bulgaria and
Dubai, in third and seventh place respectively.
Morocco and
Prague were also in demand, making it into the top 20. There are, however, some noteable absences according to the analysts; as a country, Italy came only 21st and
Tuscany did not feature in the top 101 locations. On a regional level, only Umbria, Puglia and Le Marche supported Italy's ranking.
Ashley Rigg, director at Globaledge.co.uk commented on the findings: "In economic terms, Italy has been dubbed the sick man of Europe and buying there is incredibly complicated. It's also expensive in many regions, which is probably why Tuscany doesn't make the list at all. It could be a while until it comes back into fashion."
Rigg also remarked upon the inclusion of Prague in the top twenty: "The Czech Republic is one of the best performing economies in central and eastern Europe and finance is easily available. It's even possible to get 100 per cent mortgages. News of the opportunities have [sic] obviously filtered through to the British public."
