New rating system announced for eco-friendly developments
New rating system announced for eco-friendly developmentsBritish property investors concerned about the eco-credentials of their bricks and mortar will soon be helped by a new rating system. Environmentally friendly developers Green Horizons have announced that from next month a system will be in place to identify the most environmentally friendly property developments around the world.

'The GREEN Building Standard' will, the developers claim, be "an internationally recognised mark of quality which lets prospective purchasers of properties anywhere in the world identify whether that development is being built to the highest 'green' standards." The rating system will award developments with a bronze, silver, gold or platinum status depending on their environmental credentials.

Colin Barrett-Treen, managing director at Green Horizons, explained the new initiative: "We have designed a system which can easily be applied across national and continental borders. Using the GREEN Building Standard, purchasers will be able to easily identify how environmentally friendly a property is when compared to others which have gained an award." He went on to point out that that the rating can be granted early on in the development process, allowing buyers to make an informed decision even when buying off-plan.

The GREEN Building Standard has been developed in response to a significant change in the attitude of international property investors with regards to environmentally friendly factors. The developers back up their claims using a poll they carried out in November 2007, which revealed that 92 per cent of those surveyed would prefer to purchase a property with green credentials.
