Eco-friendly holiday cabins given the green light
A new holiday park has been given the go ahead and will offer investors the chance to do their bit for the environment. According to the Darlington and Stockton Times, the eco-friendly scheme has been given the green light by planners.
The 36 Scandinavian-style timber holiday homes will be built on a site in Bagby, near Thirsk,
Yorkshire, and have been designed to have a minimal impact on the environment. The cabins will be built using recycled materials and all timber will come from sustainable sources. Furthermore, every lodge will boast water and energy saving devices and be well insulated to reduce the need for heating.
Phil Brierley, the park's director, said: "Many people want to own a holiday home in beautiful areas such as this. Tourism does make a very valuable contribution to the regional economy and to supporting local businesses." The lodges are hassle-free and "instead of spending weekends tending the garden, you can get straight down to enjoying your break", Brierley added.
Efforts will be made to ensure that the buildings blend into their surroundings; natural screening will be used to make them as unobtrusive as possible. Prices for the holiday cabins will start at £95,000 and investors can choose from two or three-bedroom designs. Over the past 25 years, wildlife habitats have been created at the site by planting thousands of trees and shrubs.
