Public enquiry held into Trump's £1bn Scottish golf resort
A public enquiry has begun to decide the fate of American tycoon Donald Trump's plans for a £1bn golf resort near Aberdeen, reports The Glasgow Herald.

BR> Trump has claimed that he would create the world's best golf resort 13 miles north of the Scottish city; he is hoping to create two championship golf courses, a club house and many properties on the Menie Estate. If the plans go ahead, investors can choose between 950 holiday apartments, 36 golf villas and 500 residential homes, including 25 six-bedroom properties, which would cost £1m each .

Despite Trump's claims, objections to his project have been raised on environmental grounds as part of the course would be built on sand dunes which are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The enquiry was ordered by Scottish ministers after his initial plans were rejected by an Aberdeenshire Council committee, according to the BBC. In his defence, the American billionaire said: "I am looking to build the finest golf course in the world if given the chance to do it."

Several groups, including the RSPB and the Ramblers Association have expressed their worries. Nevertheless, at the hearing, Trump claimed that he had seen polls showing 93 per cent of respondents in favour of the proposed project. The enquiry is expected to last several weeks.
