Antonio Banderas's beachfront garden in Spain to be seized
Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith's garden at their holiday home in Spain is to be made public land. The land will be seized under attempts by Marbella authorities to reclaim land that was illegally reclassified as private.
The high profile couple are the latest owners of
villas in Spain to fall victim to the officials' actions. According to The Daily Telegraph, over 14,000 square feet of their stars' land will be reclaimed to allow public access to the beach.
The land is adjacent to the swimming pool at the £5m
Marbella villa. A source told Spanish media: "The swimming pool will go untouched, but the area being seized goes right up to the edge of the pool, which will ruin their enjoyment of it."
Thousands of homeowners, many of them British, risk losing property after corrupt town hall officials illegally reclassified land and granted planning permission to builders. Authorities are now attempting to revoke building licences issued on greenbelt land across 500 miles of coastline.
Banderas was last year ordered to demolish part of the villa. It was claimed that it was constructed using a licence wrongly issued to the previous owner.
