New golf courses to benefit Cyprus's property market

The Cypriot government has approved plans to build several new golf courses in the country. It is thought that Cyprus's new golfing opportunities will boost its property market.

The new golf courses will bring the total on the island to 17, according to Masa International. The Cypriot government hopes that the courses will help attract more tourists to the island.

Owners of villas in Limassol are set to benefit from the expected rise in visitor numbers, as it is thought some of the new courses will be built near the town, in Ayios Ambrosios, Paramali and Fassouri. Additional courses will be constructed in Polis and Ammochostos, Larnaca.

Commenting on the Cypriot government's approval, spokesman Stefanos Stefanou said: "It was taken for the purpose of strengthening the tourism product in Cyprus and boosting economic activity. In accordance with the decision, no water supplies will be given over by the government to meet the needs of these facilities."

In addition to the new golf courses, it is thought that new airline routes will further stimulate Cyprus's tourism industry. The number of scheduled flights to the island is set to rise from 15 to 60 per week in April, a 300 per cent increase. This includes a new easyJet route from London Gatwick to Larnaca, which will run four times per week.
