Massive Spanish resort approvedA tourism development, described as one the largest and most important in Europe, has been given the go-ahead by officials.

The project, known as the Marina de Cope, is set for the coastal town of Aguilas in Murcia, Spain, reports expat newspaper Round Town News.

According to the news provider, Murcia's regional government claims the 21 million square metre scheme - which it is hoped will provide a total of 2,000 moorings - has been planned to be as environmentally-friendly as possible.

The development will be "high-quality, low-impact" and, as well as the marina, will feature five golf courses, ten football fields and a congress centre, it adds.

It is intended that the marina will place the resort in the same league as Cannes and Nice in neighbouring France.

Earlier this week, Peter Lockey of the World Wide Fund for Nature said that tourists should consider the environmental impact of how they travel and the activities they engage in while on holiday.
