Massive eco-tourism complex for Vietnam

Vietnam is set for a £490 million ($1 billion) eco-tourism project, reports VietNamNet Bridge.

The development will be situated in the country's ThuaThien-Hue province and is expected to be completed by 2014.

When finished, the 300 hectare complex will be one of the largest eco-tourism developments in the country.

The project will consist of four phases involving the construction of four five-star hotels and one "super six-star" hotel.

The final part of the project will see the construction of 470 holiday villas that will then be put up for sale.

The development will also feature an 18-hole golf course, an exhibition and conference centre and a shopping area.

Work is expected to start on the project in March 2008 with the completion of the first phase scheduled in 2009.

Vietnam has a population of around 83 million and was colonised by France in the 19th century, but following its turbulent past the country is now an increasingly popular holiday destination.
