UK investors look to 'Tuscan farmhouse' dream
UK investors look to 'Tuscan farmhouse' dreamAn increasing number of holiday home investors are looking to rural property in search of the 'Tuscan farmhouse' dream, according to an industry expert.

Paul Owen of the Association of International Property Professionals said that Calabria, which sits at the tip of Italy, is currently extremely popular with investors.

Relatively low property prices in such areas, along with the familiarity that Italy poses to UK investors, make rural Italy an increasingly viable investment option.

Mr Owen said: "Italy is very, very similar to Spain – it has nothing like the market share but it's established. It falls into the same bracket as Spain and Portugal – people know what it's about, they've been there, they know what they're going to get, they know how to get there.

"There's a familiarity so people are happy to spend there."

He advised prospective holiday home buyers to carry out their research before buying, using a reliable agent and a good lawyer.
