Many Britons are letting out their homes during Wimbledon fortnight, to provide short-term accommodation. The trend of short-term and holiday lets is also set to continue as the 2012 Olympics approach.

Savvy homeowners living near London's All England Tennis Club can pocket from £500 to £7,000 per week, reports The Telegraph. As the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics draw closer, an increasing number of London homeowners "will be trying to leap aboard the short-let bandwagon", to accommodate competitors, fans, journalists and support staff.

Central and east London are likely to be most in demand but other areas will also benefit. Sarah Shortridge of estate agents Foxtons said: "My opinion is that most people who come over for the Olympics will want a base in central London and commute to Stratford for the events they want to see."

London agency Chesterton recommends that homeowners get their properties professionally cleaned, and remove any items of sentimental or high value before short-term lets for sporting events. The property does not need to be completely up-to-date, but it should be fully equipped.
