Green concerns drive coastal holiday home demand

Environmental concerns are contributing to the significant increase in British investors choosing to buy holiday homes in the UK rather than abroad.

Research from propertyfinder.com reveals that holiday home investors are opting to buy property in Britain in order to take advantage of holidaymakers choosing to reduce their carbon footprint by not traveling too far.

Some 47 percent of respondents to propertyfinder's survey said they would like to own a holiday home.

Of the 500,000 people that already own a second home, around 60 percent own this property in the UK.

The south-west is home to 25 percent of those properties, while 23 percent are in the south-east.

According to the study, Rock in Cornwall is one of the coastal towns that will experience increased interest in the near future.

"Many coastal towns are already property hotspots, but we can expect prices in popular UK holiday destinations to rocket compared to the market in general," said Warren Bright, chief executive of the website.

"People looking to buy second homes may do well to broaden their search from the prime locations – by moving just a few miles inland from the coast, properties are often much more affordable and a good investment."
