Increased demand for eco-homes in Spain
Increased demand for eco-homes in Spain
The latest trend in the Spanish property market is an increased demand for eco-homes, built in an environmentally-conscious way. More property investors want to buy eco-homes in Spain, away from resort developments, in unspoilt, natural locations.

In particular, Murcia is proving popular with property buyers after a Spanish eco-home, reports Homes Worldwide. Planning laws in Murcia specify different zones, protecting the mountain ranges and areas around them.

Estate agent Mike Hamilton said: "Many developers are missing the very real point that increasingly consumers require environmentally-conscious homes with such things as solar power, eco-friendly water conservation methods, and where the environment into which they are moving will remain unchanged.

"For the developer...there is great opportunity to be had in terms of constructing fabulous real estate in an ethical manner that is hugely sought after."

Around the national parks in Murcia, only one property can be built per five acres. This is meant to preserve the natural beauty of the region, Homes Worldwide writes. Some properties in the area have enough land for owners to become practically self-sufficient, and have almond trees and vineyards, which help reduce carbon dioxide.
