Stepping through the wardrobe into Slovenia
Stepping through the wardrobe into SloveniaFor a holiday straight out of a fairytale, travellers should head to Slovenia, suggests The Express. One of the locations for the shooting of the latest Narnia film, the country itself needs no digital trickery.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian gets its London premiere this week and the final scene will transport filmgoers to the remote valley of the river Soca, in Slovenia. The luminescent river is surrounded by a valley of "glorious green", in a virtually undeveloped area. Being on the southern side of the Alps, the region also enjoys a "habitually sunny climate", and is dramatically walled in by the mountains.

Visitors will feel as though they are "clambering through the back of the European wardrobe" upon entering this picturesque region. Tourism centres around invigorating, outdoors activities, such as hiking, biking and fishing, or the more adventurous can try paragliding or white water rafting. Much of the tourist activity takes place in and around the small town of Bovec, and pursuits are considerably cheaper than in better known Alpine resorts.

The Soca Valley also holds an attraction for those interested in history; remnants of its military heritage can be seen along the valley tops, as well as in museums and private collections.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was also filmed amongst the "magnificent scenery" of New Zealand.
