SnOasis ski complex approved in Suffolk
Suffolk is to get a £350m indoor ski resort following government approval. The SnOasis development will be constructed on a disused quarry and will house Europe's largest indoor ski slope.

Construction of the SnOasis resort at Great Blakenham in Suffolk will take 30 months, according to developer Onslow Suffolk. The 350 acre complex will offer an extensive range of winter sports and visitor numbers are expected to be approximately 650,000 per year.

As well as being a tourist attraction, SnOasis will also be England's first centre of excellence for winter sports athletes. Training facilities will be provided for at least 14 different sports disciplines.

"At last we have final approval. After eight years and costs running into many millions, we can move forward and give our country something unique to be proud of," said Onslow Suffolk's managing director Godfrey Spanner.

"SnOasis will now become a reality, bringing with it countless opportunities for jobs, the local and national economies, education, athletes and the winter sports industry."

Spanner went on to say that he expected SnOasis to become a regular venue on the world winter sports circuit.

Improvements to the local infrastructure will be made, including a new rail link to London Liverpool Street.

Cycle tracks and wooded areas will be created in addition to the snow based activities. Training initiatives and educational programmes will also be developed.
