Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes & Robin Hood boost UK tourism
New Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes and Robin Hood films are set to give British tourism a boost. The films, starring Emma Watson, Jude Law and Russell Crowe respectively, are all due for release in the next year.

First to be released is Sherlock Holmes in December and VisitEngland hopes that the film will inspire visitors to holiday in Kent. The film, which sees Robert Downey Junior starring alongside new father Jude Law, features Kent locations such as Chatham's historic dockyard.

Several other locations could benefit from Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. Scenes for the film were also shot in London's St Paul's Cathedral, Liverpool and Manchester.

Robin Hood is set for release in May 2010 and stars Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Redgrave and William Hurt. The tourism authority is confident that the film will raise the profile of yet more destinations. Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire provides the backdrop for many scenes, while Surrey's Virginia Water and Bourne Woods were also used. Outside of England, the film also features Pembrokeshire.

Robin Hood is not the only movie to have filmed on location in West Wales. The final Harry Potter film - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - uses the area for seaside scenes. The first part of the film, starring Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, will be in cinemas from November 2010.
