Enjoy England launches Comedy Britain campaign

Enjoy England has launched a new campaign to attract visitors to England's greatest comedy-related locations. Comedy England is aimed at domestic visitors and will run for six months.
The Comedy England campaign features over 150 locations throughout
England, all of which have comedic links; from
Torquay (the setting for Fawlty Towers) to Alan Partridge's
Norwich. Comedy England is due to run until January 2009.
Laurence Bresh of Enjoy England said: "England is renowned for producing some of the best comedy in the world...Comedy is an integral part of our heritage and culture, and the Comedy England campaign will encourage visitors to explore some of the regions, locations and attractions which have contributed to this." He added that he hoped that the campaign will further increase the 100 million domestic trips taken by Britons each year.
The Comedy England campaign will also highlight less obvious comedy connections, including "local comedy heroes" - comedians linked to a region through birth, for example. These include Peter Kay, from the
north-west of England, and Jennifer Saunders from the
south-west.
The campaign will also feature venues where visitors can catch the latest comedy talent, as well as monuments and blue plaques in memory of comedians.
