Brunei tipped to be tourist hub
Brunei tipped to be tourist hubThe Vietnamese ambassador to Brunei said yesterday that the area could become a centre for tourism in Southeast Asia.

Ha Hong Hai, the ambassassador from Vietnam explained to The Brunei Times that Brunei should expand its current industry from oil and gas to include tourism.

He noted that the country was a tranquil place with a central and strategically placed location.

Praising the long coastlines and beautiful beaches along the South China Sea, the ambassador encouraged the country to follow Vietnam in promoting the tourism industry.

"Brunei needs to have an open policy, which offers more incentives to foreign investors, such as lower business tax, build infrastructure for foreigners to invest in industrial parks, chemical plants and other industries."

The Indonesian island adjoins Malaysia and is located on the northern shore of the Isle of Borneo.

Brunei gained its independence from Britain in 1984, but English is still widely spoken alongside the national language of Malay.
