Ronaldo gets a new strip
Ronaldo gets a new stripAfter Manchester United last week emerged victorious in the Champions League final, Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has made the papers again. The Mail on Sunday reveals how the "prolific goalscoarer" has acquired a new strip and is expanding his property portfolio.

Ronaldo has recently bought a strip of beachfront land on the Portuguese island of Porto Santo, which lies off the coast of his native Madeira, and has reportedly applied for planning permission to build an apartment complex and hotel. Commenting on his latest acquisition, the Old Trafford star said: "I hope it's finished as soon as possible, but we will have to wait and see." The 23- year old has also apparently splashed out on a property in the nearby development of Casas do Moinho, from where he will be able to oversee the construction of his new project. At £104,000, the house cost him less than a week's wages.

This is not Ronaldo's first foray into property investment; in February he is said to have bought a five-bedroom mansion in Cheshire for £3.9 million and is also overseeing construction of another house on the outskirts of Lisbon.

Porto Santo, which the paper describes as once being a "sleepy, low-key" holiday destination, is just ten miles by two miles and, with the launch of direct flights from the UK, has recently been opened up to the British market.
