Rock star pad may be on the cards for Tony Blair
Rock star pad may be on the cards for Tony BlairAs house prices continue to fall and consumer confidence in the UK property market falters, one high profile homeowner is taking advantage of the situation. Looking to add a sixth home to his property portfolio, Tony Blair has been out house hunting, The Times reveals.

The former prime minister has reportedly viewed two houses in Buckinghamshire in the past month and is said to be on the lookout for a country house within a 20-mile radius of his former official weekend residence, Chequers. One of the two properties was even called Chequers Manor but the keen guitarist is smitten by a house once owned by the lead singer of rock band Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson.

Savills, the estate agency selling Pophleys, the property that has caught Blair's eye is refusing to comment but an unnamed property insider described the home: "It's a nice family country house. It's quite private...There's a bridleway that goes through the land and runs quite close to the house."

It is understood that Blair has £5 million to play with in his search for a new country pad, but he would be willing to borrow more to secure his ideal home. The eight bedroom farmhouse near Stokenchurch is currently on the market at £5.25 million and was owned by Anderson back in the 1970s when Jethro Tull were riding high in the British charts. If the Blairs were to purchase the property, or any other, it would be property number six for them, following in the ranks of their original constituency home in Sedgefield, two flats in Bristol, a Georgian townhouse in Connaught Square, London with an £800,000 mews house behind which they plan to knock through.

Since stepping down as prime minister, Blair, who back in his youth was a member of the band Ugly Rumours, has taken on a part-time senior position with Wall Street bank JP Morgan Chase and is rumoured to be earning £500,000 per year. Cherie Blair continues with her work as a barrister and has also just struck a £1.5 million deal, which will see her writing her memoirs.
