Tower Bridge lift falls, injuring six
The lift at London's Tower Bridge fell yesterday, injuring six people. The lift's passengers were being carried to an exhibition at the top of Tower Bridge when it fell an estimated 10 feet down its shaft.
Several of those being carried in the lift broke their ankles and legs, reports The Times. Six people, five visitors and one member of staff, were taken to the Royal London Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital, while a further 10 were able to walk away uninjured.

London attraction failed at around 1pm. The passengers were on their way up to the Tower Bridge exhibition and observation platform, where visitors can enjoy views across London.
It is thought that the lift was only a few seconds into its ascent of the tower's north bridge when it came to a halt. A spokesman for the City of London Corporation said that the lift fell around 10 feet, but a security guard claimed that it dropped more than 30 feet.
Following the incident, Tower Bridge was closed to traffic for several hours. An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive is under way, but it is not yet known if a mechanical fault caused the lift to fall, or whether a cable snapped.
Approximately 1,000 people travel in the tower's lifts each day. The City of London Corporation assured visitors that the lift had been regularly checked and serviced.
