Sleep 'vital to holiday enjoyment'
It is "vital" that weary tourists get a good night's sleep while on holiday, one expert has claimed.Jessica Alexander, spokesperson for the Sleep Council, explained that some people adapt more easily to sleeping in unfamiliar surroundings than others, but there are things everyone can do to make sure they are well rested during their trip.
She said: "Don't be tempted to keep later hours, drink more alcohol and eat richer foods than normal as all those things will add to the disturbed sleep you are already in for."
Ms Alexander added that people on some long-haul flights will also be able to take advantage of things such as flat beds, which will allow them to sleep while on the move.
The Sleep Council's advice on dealing with jet-leg suggests people should drink plenty of water during a flight to prevent dehydration.
It also recommends people eat three balanced meals the day before they are due to travel.
