Plane missing over Papua New Guinea
Plane missing over Papua New Guinea
A tourist plane has gone missing over Papua New Guinea. The plane carrying 13 people disappeared on approach to the airport.

The plane was en route to an airport near Papua New Guinea's Kokoda Track when it vanished from radars, reports The Guardian. The crew radioed air traffic controllers as the plane was approaching the airstrip, but it failed to land.

A search and rescue mission has been launched to find the 11 passengers and two crew members. The aircraft has an emergency locator beacon, but this is not transmitting any signals.

It has been confirmed that nine of the 11 passengers are Australian. Searchers are checking other airstrips in the area to see if the plane has landed elsewhere. However, poor weather conditions are hampering efforts.
