New helmet rules for ski resort where Natasha Richardson died
The ski resort where Natasha Richardson died is advising all skiers to wear helmets. The new guidelines also require all children at the resort's ski school programmes to use helmets.
Intrawest, which operates the
Mont Tremblant resort in the province of
Quebec, is raising awareness of the importance of wearing helmets as the 2009/10 ski season gets underway. Richardson died after falling and suffering a head injury at the resort in March.
The new guidelines apply to all
Canada ski resorts and winter sports centres in
north America operated by the company. This includes
Whistler Blackcomb, a host venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics. A helmet will be included with all children's ski and snowboard equipment hire from Intrawest's rental outlets.
As of the 2010/11 ski season all resort employees will be required to wear helmets when skiing or snowboarding on duty. Although this rule will be fully phased in by the start of next year's season, some resorts will begin to implement it this year.
