Euro 2008 'will still attract UK football fans'
Euro 2008 'will still attract UK football fans'Holidaymakers from the UK will flock to Austria and Switzerland this June, it has been claimed.

Some 15,000 Brits are expected to visit the two countries which are jointly hosting the Euro 2008 tournament, the Austrian Tourist Board (ATB) says.

Representatives of the ATB believe that despite the failure of any of the home nations to qualify for the competition, many UK-based football fans are being tempted by Austria's "reputation for hosting international events and throwing excellent parties".

The board also suggests that the cultural attractions surrounding Euro 2008 should draw attention from people who are on holiday in the country for reasons other than football.

Among the events scheduled to take place are performances by opera singers Placido Domingo and Rolando Villazon as well as a concert by Elton John.

Euro 2008 begins on June 7th with the final being held in the Austrian capital of Vienna on June 29th.

The other cities hosting games are Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt in Austria and Berne, Basel, Zurich and Geneva in Switzerland.
