Earthquake hits New Zealand - tsunami warning in place

An earthquake has hit off the coast of New Zealand. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8.
The earthquake struck off the west coast of New Zealand's South Island at a depth of 35km, according to the US Geological Survey. It occurred at 8.22am local time, 150km west of Invercargill.
The BBC reports that a tsnumani warning has been issued for parts of the Pacific Ocean. There have been no immediate reports of damage.
